
Srinagar, Jan 13; The Jammu & Kashmir Snow Shoe Association today accorded a warm welcome to Muzamil Hussain, an international snow shoe athlete, in Srinagar following his remarkable achievement of winning a bronze medal at the 52nd Ciaspolada–2026 International Snow Shoe Race, held in Fondo, Italy. The prestigious championship was organized by the International Snow Shoe Federation.
A contingent of 10 athletes from India participated in the renowned Ciaspolada event, which is widely regarded as the world’s oldest and largest snow shoe race, having been organized continuously for over five decades.
The Indian team comprised athletes Muzamil Hussain Mir, Akshir Singh Kush, Karan Sharma, Anshuman Boparai, Ankit Khokhar, Anjum Chaudhary, Dhaani Malhotra, and Aashna Chaudhary, along with officials Abid Hussain and Harish Kumar.
During the welcome ceremony, Dr. Altaf-ul-Rehman, Secretary of the JK Snow Shoe Association, lauded the outstanding performance of Muzamil Hussain and appreciated the collective efforts of the entire Indian contingent. He described the achievement as a moment of immense pride for Jammu & Kashmir and Indian winter sports.
Riyaz Wani, President of the JK Mountain Biking Association, also congratulated Muzamil Hussain on securing the bronze medal. He highlighted Muzamil’s dedication and discipline, stating that he has personally witnessed the athlete’s rigorous daily training and hard work, and expressed confidence that Muzamil will bring more medals for the country in the future.
Other prominent members present on the occasion included Gulzar Khan, along with several officials and members of the JK Snow Shoe Association.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, a two-minute silence was observed to pay homage to the late Mr. Mohammad Aslam Laigaroo, uncle of Arif Laigroo, with prayers offered for eternal peace to the departed soul.
