Jammu Jan 25: After remaining closed for three consecutive days due to heavy snowfall at Nachlana near Ramsoo area of Ramban district, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has finally been reopened for vehicular traffic, bringing much-needed relief to commuters and transporters.
The strategic 270-kilometer highway, which serves as the lifeline between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, was rendered impassable following intense snowfall and slippery road conditions in the Nachnalla area. The closure had left hundreds of vehicles stranded and disrupted the movement of essential supplies to the valley.
Speaking to Brighter Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Alyas Ahmad Khan, confirmed the resumption of traffic. “The road has been thrown open for vehicular movement. There are no stranded vehicles along the highway now,” he stated, adding that the administration and road clearance agencies worked tirelessly to ensure the swift restoration of the route.
Authorities have advised travelers to confirm the status of the highway before embarking on their journey, as weather conditions in the region remain unpredictable. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of commuters.
The reopening of the highway is expected to ease the transportation of goods and passengers, especially with the Republic Day celebrations and winter tourism season in full swing.
