Mr. Jawaid Rahmani inherited his passion for Urdu journalism from his late father, Atiq Muzaffarpuri, a dedicated journalist, poet, and literary enthusiast. For him, journalism was not merely a profession but a moral responsibility and a mission to preserve Urdu’s linguistic and cultural heritage
In the world of Urdu journalism and literature, certain individuals earn respect not through publicity or prestigious positions, but through dedication, sincerity, and lifelong service. My longtime friend and literary associate, Mr. Jawaid Rahmani, is one such personality whose contributions to journalism, literature, and society deserve appreciation.
For many years, I have met Rahmani at literary gatherings, seminars, mushairas, and cultural events in Delhi. His simplicity, graciousness, humility, and respect for scholars have always impressed me. Beyond his professional achievements, his warm personality and commitment to Urdu distinguish him as a respected figure.
A Distinguished Journalistic Legacy
Jawaid Rahmani inherited his passion for Urdu journalism from his late father, Atiq Muzaffarpuri, a dedicated journalist, poet, and literary enthusiast. For him, journalism was not merely a profession but a moral responsibility and a mission to preserve Urdu’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
In 2003, Atique Muzaffarpuri established Saiban as a fortnightly Urdu publication from Delhi. Despite financial difficulties and limited resources, he remained committed to responsible journalism.
Continuing his father’s mission, Jawaid Rahmani transformed Saiban into a daily newspaper in 2008. This courageous decision reflected his determination to strengthen Urdu journalism despite the challenges facing print media.
Today, Daily Saiban is published through five centres: New Delhi, Bhopal, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, and Muzaffarpur. Maintaining these editions represents a noteworthy achievement in contemporary Urdu journalism.
With more than three decades of journalistic experience,. Rahmani has consistently emphasised professional integrity, editorial responsibility, and public awareness. His career connects traditional print journalism with the rapidly evolving digital media environment.
International Experience and Literary Contributions
Rahmani’s journalistic activities extend beyond India. He has travelled to the United States, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, participating in journalistic activities and gaining international exposure. These experiences have broadened his professional perspective and strengthened his understanding of global media and cultural developments.
His contributions also include literary research, compilation, and editing. Particularly noteworthy is Atiq Muzaffarpuri: Hayat-o-Khidmat, a book compiled and edited by him to preserve his father’s life, achievements, and journalistic legacy.
This publication represents not only a son’s tribute to his father but also an important effort to document the struggles and contributions of an earlier generation of Urdu journalists.
Institutional and Social Engagement
Rahmani has remained actively associated with several prominent journalistic, literary, and cultural institutions.
He previously served as a member of the Executive Council of the Urdu Academy, Delhi, and the Media Accreditation Committee of the Delhi Government.
He is a life member of the Press Club of India and the Foreign Correspondents’ Club. His previous responsibilities include serving as Secretary of the Democratic Press Club and General Secretary of the Indian Language Journalists Association.
For approximately two decades, he has also been associated with Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu (Hind), New Delhi, as its Media Coordinator. His longstanding connection with this historic organisation reflects his commitment to promoting Urdu literature and strengthening communication between literary institutions and the media.
Beyond journalism, he serves as General Secretary of Shiksha Seva Samiti and Saiban Foundation, contributing to educational and social initiatives. He is also a life member of the India Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi.
Various organisations have recognised his journalistic and social contributions through awards and honours. However, his lasting achievement lies in his continued service to language, literature, and society.
A Legacy Across Two Generations
The story of Atiq Muzaffarpuri and Javed Rahmani beautifully illustrates the continuity of a journalistic tradition across two generations.
The father established Saiban with dedication and limited resources; the son expanded that vision into a daily newspaper with a presence across five centres.
Their shared journey demonstrates that preserving a language requires more than emotional attachment. It demands institutions, perseverance, intellectual commitment, and practical action.
At a time when Urdu newspapers face financial pressures, declining readership, and digital competition, such efforts offer encouragement to younger journalists and language enthusiasts.
A Personality Worth Appreciating
What impresses me most about Javed Rahmani is his humane character. Despite his numerous responsibilities, he remains approachable, courteous, and deeply respectful towards writers, poets, scholars, and fellow journalists.
His friendship reflects sincerity, while his professional journey demonstrates determination and responsibility.
I sincerely pray that Almighty Allah grants him good health, a long life, continued success, and greater opportunities to serve Urdu journalism and literature.
May Daily Saiban continue progressing, and may he successfully carry forward the distinguished legacy of his late father.
Javed Rahmani represents those dedicated individuals whose quiet efforts preserve the dignity, vitality, and cultural richness of Urdu.
