Srinagar, Sep 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday withdrew three Bills proposing amendments to laws governing the salaries and allowances of ministers and legislators, along with pensions for former members of the legislature, following objections from BJP members.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had introduced the Bills during the ongoing Autumn Session, announced their withdrawal amid opposition in the House. He said he had not supported the proposal and maintained that the Bills would not be passed if even a single member objected to them.

The three Bills were introduced on Monday as L.A. Bill No. 13 of 2026, proposing amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Ministers’ and Ministers of State Salaries Act, 1956. L.A. Bill No. 14 of 2026 sought changes to the Salaries and Allowances of Members of the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Act, 1960, while L.A. Bill No. 15 of 2026 proposed amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Members’ Pension Act, 1984.

The proposed legislation dealt with provisions concerning the financial entitlements of ministers and elected legislators, including salaries, allowances and pensions.

The Bills faced criticism from BJP legislators, who raised objections over the proposed changes to the financial benefits available to elected representatives.

Their withdrawal came a day after they were introduced in the Assembly as part of the government’s legislative agenda for the ongoing Autumn Session.

The House also took up other government Bills and legislative business during Tuesday’s proceedings.
