J&K budget to be presented in parliament today

The Jammu and Kashmir’s budget would be presented in parliament by union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

It would be for the fifth consecutive year that J&K’s budget will be presented in the parliament. This time though it will be an interim budget. After the Lok Sabha polls, the new government will present the full budget.
Since J&K is under the central rule, the UT’s budget is being presented in the parliament as the J&K Assembly has not been in place for last five and half years.
Earlier on February 1 along with the union interim budget, J&K was allocated Rs 37277.74 crore mainly to bridge the resource gap.
The Finance Minister would also present a statement showing the supplementary demands of grants regarding J&K.
Jammu & Kashmir is without an elected government since June 19, 2018 after BJP withdrew support to Mehbooba Mufti-led government citing security concerns.
After the collapse of PDP-BJP government, the budget for 2019-20 was approved by then J&K Governor as head of the State Administrative Council.
After downgrading of J&K into Union Territory by centre on August 5, 2019, all its budgets were presented in the Parliament.
According to the list of business, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would present a statement of estimated receipts and expenditure of Jammu and Kashmir for 2024-25 fiscal year on Monday.
On Thursday FM had announced Rs 500 crore provision for Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project and Rs 476 crore for Ratle hydro electric project in.
Total grants of Rs 37277.74 crore have been given to Jammu and Kashmir for next financial year of 2024-25 as against Rs 35581.44 crore given in 2023-24 which have subsequently been revised to Rs 41751.44 crore.
As per the budget documents, Rs 500 crore Revenue grants have been given to Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project, Rs 476.44 crore to Ratle 800 MW hydro electric project, Rs 171.23 crore to Kwar hydro electric project and Rs 130 crore to 624 MW Kiru hydro electric project. All power projects are being constructed in Kishtwar district of Jammu region.
Rs 101.77 crore worth grants have been given to Jammu and Kashmir in the budget as support for Capital Expenditure of UT while Rs 279 crore worth funds are for Disaster Response. Rs 35619 crore accounted for Central assistance to Union Territories.
