Jammu and Kashmir celebrated National Sports Day with enthusiasm across all districts, paying tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary. The main function was held at KK Hakku Stadium, Jammu, where Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, emphasized the unifying and character-building power of sports.
“National Sports Day reminds us of the values of discipline, perseverance, and unity that sports instill. It is heartening to see youth from every corner of J&K participating with such zeal,” the Minister said, urging continued grassroots training to nurture champions for the nation.
In Srinagar, Commissioner Secretary Sarmad Hafeez and Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gul visited Polo Ground Sports Complex, where they interacted with players in multiple disciplines. The event featured a hockey exhibition match, kit distribution, and a felicitation ceremony recognizing the success of the recent Khelo India Water Sports Festival 2025 at Dal Lake.
Sarmad Hafeez stated that sports culture is taking deep root in J&K, supported by modern infrastructure and professional coaching. Nuzhat Gul highlighted inclusive opportunities under Khelo India and PMDP, reaffirming commitment to rural and urban talent.
In Jammu, over 200 athletes paid floral tributes to Major Dhyan Chand, with an exhibition match between Bandhu Rakh Club and Guru Nanak Club marking the occasion. The event was jointly organized by the J&K Sports Council, SAI STC Jammu, and Hockey Association of J&K.
Sports competitions were held across PMDP Centres, Khelo India Centres, and in-house facilities throughout rural and urban J&K, reflecting the inclusive and vibrant sports spirit fostered by the J&K Sports Council.
