J&K Kabaddi body forms POSH committee

August 27, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Jammu, Aug 26 : The Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Kabaddi Association has constituted a Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Committee in accordance with the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, taking a significant step towards ensuring a safe, respectful and inclusive sporting environment.

Association General Secretary Dr Kuldeep Kumar Gupta said the formation of the committee reflects the association’s commitment to strengthening safeguards for athletes, coaches, officials and other members associated with the sport.
Former kabaddi athlete Rajeshwari Sharma has been appointed Chairperson of the committee. Her experience in the sporting environment, coupled with her academic and professional background, is expected to contribute to the effective functioning of the panel.
The committee will provide an institutional mechanism to address complaints and concerns related to sexual harassment and promote awareness about appropriate conduct within the sporting ecosystem.
Dr Gupta said creating a safe environment is essential for athletes to participate and perform without fear, discrimination or harassment. The association aims to ensure that all stakeholders understand their rights and responsibilities and that concerns are dealt with through a fair and appropriate mechanism.
The move assumes particular significance in organised sports, where athletes often interact closely with coaches, officials and support staff during training, competitions and travel. A clearly defined grievance mechanism can help strengthen confidence among players and encourage them to report concerns.
The association said the initiative is part of its broader efforts to promote professionalism, dignity, equality and accountability in kabaddi.
The constitution of the POSH Committee is expected to further strengthen institutional safeguards within the J&K kabaddi fraternity and reinforce the message that sporting excellence must go hand in hand with respect, safety and inclusivity.
