J&K reviews PMAY-G exclusions after complaints

June 25, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, June 24: The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a statewide review of beneficiaries excluded from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), following complaints from legislators and local representatives that several deserving rural families were left out of the housing scheme.

The Rural Development Department has directed officials to examine cases of rejection or deletion from the Permanent Wait List (PWL) and launched a fresh verification drive across rural areas to ensure that eligible households are not denied benefits.
Officials said the review follows repeated grievances from public representatives who alleged that genuine beneficiaries were excluded during finalisation of the list based on surveys linked to the Socio-Economic and Caste Census. Some legislators claimed that errors in verification had resulted in poor families being dropped from the scheme.
Opposition PDP legislator Rafiq Ahmad Naik said Block Development Officers have been instructed to ensure fair selection without discrimination, while ruling party MLA Riyaz Ahmad Khan also alleged that deserving families in his constituency were left out despite eligibility.
In Poonch district, former DDC member Suhail Malik claimed around 5,800 eligible beneficiaries were excluded and said a reverification exercise is now underway after government intervention.
Rural Development Secretary Mohammad Aijaz said representations had highlighted possible wrongful exclusions due to survey errors or verification lapses, adding that such cases must be urgently corrected. He warned that officials found responsible for negligence or improper verification would face action.
The department has now instructed field officers to ensure strict adherence to guidelines issued by the Ministry of Rural Development and to prioritise correction of genuine grievances. A large-scale re-verification campaign has been launched across panchayats to identify and restore eligible beneficiaries under PMAY-G 2.0.
