
The International Film Festival Jammu & Kashmir will be held for four days starting from September 7 ,2026 and it is attracting a good number of actors ,directors and other people associated with film industry. International Film Festival of Jammu &Kashmir [ IFFJK] is the only second initiative by the government of Jammu and Kashmir headed by chief minister Omar Abdullah who is a great lover of art, literature as well as cinema. The IFIJK will give a boost to film making and cinema in Jammu and Kashmir and it will open the window of Jammu and Kashmir for shooting, screening and promotion of cinematic activity and the aim is not only to review film making but encouraging local and international film talent to and also revive film shooting, film making, cinema viewing which has a halt during the sad days of militancy. The objective and purpose of IFFJK is also to develop Jammu and Kashmir as a good tourist destination and also to encourage people especially youth to see films. The inaugural function of International Film Festival of Jammu ,and Kashmir [IFFJK] will take place from September 7 to 10 ,2026 .Organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations [ DIPR] alongside the National Film Development Corporation [ NFDC] ,it features over 1,100 entries from nearly 80 countries with screenings spanning seven screens across Srinagar, Jammu , and Gulmarg .
Festival Overview & Venues----Dates---September 7-10 ,2026. Main ceremonies—Inaugural, closing, and award events are planned at the Sher—i—Kashmir International Conference Centre [ SKICC] in Srinagar, complete with live broadcasting.
Key Objectives & Highlights----A—Global Participation----Received over 1,100 international and national film submissions under preview scrutiny. B---Cultural Integration----Designed to showcase local cuisine, traditional handicrafts, heritage, and scenic tourist destinations. Guided by the theme ‘Rang -e- Cinema ’the four -day event organised by DIPR in collaboration with NDFC.to celebrate global cinema and local talent.
Key Highlights of IFFJK 2026-----Venue & Screening---Screenings will span across seven screens located in Srinagar, Jammu, and Gulmarg. Global Response----The festival received over,1,100 film entries from nearly 80 countries. Categories----Submissions include an International Competition, Short Films, and a dedicated regional segment titled Bharat Panorama J&K Select to highlight local creators. Events----Aside from film screenings the festival features masterclasses for budding filmmakers, interactive panel discussions, and vibrant cultural performances showcasing local handicrafts, cuisine, and heritage. Buoyed by the improvement in security situation, the J&K government is bracing up to host the first International Film Festival of J&K -2026 and already recorded 875 film submissions from around 50 countries so far. The diversity of submissions received from around 50 countries well enrich the festival with a wide spectrum of storytelling traditions, artistic perspectives and innovative filmmaking .There is growing international interest in the J&K governments flagship cinematic initiative. The festival aims to establish Jammu &Kashmir as a vibrant destination for cinema, creativity and cultural exchange while providing a prestigious platform for filmmaking from across the world showcase their work.’ Th encouraging response from both national and international filmmakers underscore the growing confidence in Jammu &Kashmir as an emerging hub for film production., cinematic excellence, and creative collaboration. The four-day festival will feature screenings of select films, interactive sessions, masterclasses. Jammu, and Kashmir is gearing up to host its first International Film Festival, with chief minister Omar Abdulah reviewing preparations for the four-day event scheduled to be held across Srinagar and Jammu. The inaugural IFFJK 2026 is being envisioned as an international platform for cinematic excellence, cultural exchange, creative collaboration and emerging filmmaking talent. The festival will bring together filmmakers, artists, storytellers, industry leaders, policymakers ,academicians, students, and audiences from across the country and abroad, while providing opportunities for dialogue, networking and collaboration through cinema. Chairing a high- level meeting to review the final preparations. Omar stressed the need to showcase Jammu & Kashmir’s rich cultural and cinematic heritage and provide a wider platform for local filmmakers and emerging talent. He called for prominently showcasing the region’s heritage .cuisine, handicrafts ,traditional art forms, and iconic tourist destinations during the festival .The festival will feature screening across categories including International Competition, Cinema of the world ,Bharat Panorama ,J&K Select, Best Debut Film ,Documentary /hybrid and short Films. The programme will also feature masterclasses, panel discussions, in -conversation sessions, round table and workshops involving filmmakers, actors, critics, scholars and other prominent personalities from the film industry. Ther meeting reviewed arrangements at the principal festival venues ,including SKICC and INOX Shivpora in Srinagar ,and Waves Cinema in Jammu .Plans for a floating cinema at Lal Ghat were also discussed .Preparations for a Gulmarg excursion for a select group of filmmakers were also reviewed ,including proposed visits to the Gondola, Golf Course, Gulmarg Club and other prominent attractions. Omar Abdullah stressed that meticulous planning and seamless coordination among all stakeholders would be essential to establish IFFJK as a premier annual event on the global film calendar .Plans for extensive publicity and branding of IFFJK at regional and national levels through print, electronic digital and outdoor media were also discussed.CM emphasized that the festival should emerge as a flagship international event that showcases Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural richness and creative potential in the wider world ,while creating meaningful opportunities for local filmmakers and emerging talent. To conclude one can say that that this maiden initiative by the Omar government will in fact boost cinema, filmmaking tourism and other avenues of livelihood.
