Jammu & Kashmir is set to make the Commission for Protection of Child Rights functional with appointment of its chairperson and members.
Officials said that a three-member committee headed by Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Masood Ittoo has finalized the selection process.
“The committee held interviews of the shortlisted candidates earlier this month. The selection process has been almost completed. The government will soon notify the appointment of chairperson and members of the body,” they said.
The selection panel also included the Administrative Secretaries of the Social Welfare and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Departments.
The committee headed by the Minister was tasked to
submit recommendations for appointment of the Chairperson and Members of the Commission.
As per the committee’s terms of reference, it was also mandated to prepare a waitlist of two candidates for each post.
In August this year, the J&K government had informed the High Court that it had shortlisted 21 applicants for the post of chairperson and 28 applicants for the posts of members of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
