Srinagar, Feb 11-Continuing its push for institutional reforms, the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board on Tuesday inducted four state-of-the-art ambulances into its public health infrastructure. The vehicles, equipped with advanced medico-emergency facilities, will serve major shrines across the Kashmir Valley.

Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, formally inducted the ambulances at a brief ceremony held at Dargah Hazratbal. She was accompanied by BJP State General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, who attended as the Guest of Honour.
Executive Magistrate Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin and chief imam & holy relic keeper Ghulam Mohiuddin Banday were also present on the occasion.
Dr Andrabi and Koul jointly flagged off the ambulances to their designated destinations. The vehicles will be stationed at four prominent shrines: Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar, Babarishi shrine in Tangmarg (Baramulla),Chrar-e-Sharief in Budgam, and Aishmuqam shrine in Anantnag.
Speaking at the event, Mr Koul said the Waqf Board under Dr Andrabi’s leadership has set a benchmark for other organisations across the country. He described the upgrade of facilities at religious sites across Jammu and Kashmir as both historic and inspiring.
“Many individuals who had previously misused Waqf funds for political or personal gains opposed these reforms. Despite the hurdles, the Board has delivered exceptional work. This new initiative is another feather in Dr Andrabi’s cap,” Mr Koul said.
In her address, Dr Andrabi said development, transparency, and public welfare remain the core principles guiding the Board’s functioning.
“The procurement and induction of these modern ambulances equipped with the latest emergency care facilities has been a dream project. I am grateful that we have been able to realise it today. These vehicles will not only serve devotees but also benefit local residents and adjoining hamlets,” she said.
Administrators of the Waqf Board, along with imams and khateebs of various shrines, were present during the event.
The initiative marks the first time the Waqf Board has established a dedicated health emergency network at religious sites in the Valley. Officials termed it a significant addition to the Board’s expanding public service infrastructure.
