
Srinagar, June 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) on Monday organised a special literary programme titled “Meet the Eminent Writer” at the Akashvani Srinagar auditorium in honour of renowned poet, writer, translator, researcher, critic and broadcaster Dr. Satish Vimal.
The programme was presided over by Padma Shri awardee and eminent scholar Prof. Shafi Shouq, while Director Prasar Bharati and Head of Akashvani Srinagar, Gurbinder Singh, attended as Chief Guest. Senior officials and literary figures, including JKAACL Additional Secretary Ideel Saleem, researcher Ghulam Nabi Haleem, Dr. Satish Vimal, and Editor English JKAACL Dr. Abid Ahmad, were present on the dais.
Welcoming the gathering, Ideel Saleem said JKAACL remains committed to highlighting the contributions of eminent literary and cultural personalities of Jammu and Kashmir and providing a platform for dialogue between writers and readers.
Ghulam Nabi Haleem presented a detailed paper on Dr. Vimal’s literary journey, highlighting his contributions to poetry, criticism, translation, research and broadcasting.
A musical presentation by singer Munir Ahmad Mir, featuring selected poems of Dr. Vimal, was also performed and well received by the audience.
In his address, Dr. Satish Vimal expressed gratitude to JKAACL and said literature had been central to his life, describing writing as a continuous process of learning, reflection and human connection.
Chief Guest Gurbinder Singh recalled Dr. Vimal’s long association with Akashvani, noting his significant contribution as both a broadcaster and literary figure.
Presiding over the event, Prof. Shafi Shouq described Dr. Vimal as a prominent voice in Kashmiri literature whose works reflect human values, cultural depth and contemporary relevance.
An interactive session allowed participants to engage with Dr. Vimal, who shared insights into his early influences, literary journey and broadcasting experience, while encouraging young writers to cultivate reading habits and promote social harmony through literature.
The proceedings were conducted by broadcaster Rashid Nizami, while Dr. Abid Ahmad delivered the vote of thanks, reaffirming JKAACL’s commitment to organizing similar cultural and literary programmes in the future.
The event was attended by a large gathering of writers, poets, scholars, students, journalists and literature enthusiasts from across the Valley.
