Srinagar, October 16: The Interim Body of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) Association has announced a one-day pen-down strike to protest the alleged humiliation of a woman officer during an official meeting held on October 14.
In a communication to its members, the interim body, also known as AJJSKA, called for collective participation in the protest, stating that the move was intended to uphold the dignity, self-respect and institutional honour of the administrative service.
The association urged its members to stand in solidarity with the officer, stressing that any alleged affront to the dignity of one member concerns the entire service fraternity.
The protest follows allegations of misconduct during a Mission YUVA review meeting on October 14, where senior IAS officer Kumar Rajeev Ranjan was accused of using derogatory language against Beenish Wani, Assistant Director at the Employment and Counselling Centre, Ganderbal.
The incident drew widespread attention after a video of the exchange circulated on social media. It triggered demands for accountability and an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged confrontation.
The association's decision to call a pen-down strike signals a collective response from administrative officers, placing renewed focus on professional dignity, workplace conduct and accountability within the bureaucracy.
The controversy has also attracted political attention, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reportedly taking serious note of the allegations and writing to the Chief Secretary to ensure that the woman officer is protected from any retaliatory action.
