
Seeks Relief for Cloudburst Victims
Kishtwar, Aug 19: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Shri Tariq Hameed Karra, accompanied by senior party leaders, paid obeisance at the revered shrines of Hazrat Shah Farid-ud-Din (RA) and Hazrat Shah Asrar-ud-Din (RA) in Kishtwar. He prayed for peace, prosperity, brotherhood, and unity in the region.
Karra also visited the residence of senior leader Ghulam Haider Sheikh to offer condolences for recent family bereavements. During his visit, he reviewed ongoing relief efforts for victims of the devastating cloudburst at Chasoti in Paddar and urged the central government to immediately announce a special relief and rehabilitation package in light of the severe destruction and loss of lives.
Joined by senior leaders including G.M. Saroori, Ghulam Haider Sheikh, Irshad Ahmed, and Usman Bagwan, Karra interacted with Congress workers and called for unity within party ranks. He emphasized that the Congress remains the only viable political alternative for the people.
The PCC Chief appreciated the efforts of locals, NGOs, and party cadres for their response to the crisis and urged them to continue supporting relief operations and coordinating with the administration.
Working President Raman Bhalla also expressed sympathy for the affected families and demanded the tragedy be declared a national disaster to ensure comprehensive compensation and rehabilitation.
The Congress leadership directed party workers to stay vigilant due to ongoing inclement weather and continue extending support to those in need. Karra also called on cadres to intensify the demand for restoration of statehood and align with Rahul Gandhi’s movement against electoral malpractices.
Senior leaders including Naresh Gupta, Sham Lal Bhagat, Sanjeev Panda, Neeraj Gupta, Asif Naqeeb, Jatin Vashisht, Firdous Mingnoo, and Zaffer Sheikh were also part of the visit.
