Dismisses BJP's corruption charges
Srinagar, Aug 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said Jammu and Kashmir’s problems can be solved by centre and not by Washington and rejected the BJP's allegations of corruption against his government.
Talking to reporters after his early morning visit to different areas of Srinagar to review developmental works, Omar said the issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir would be resolved by the centre.
"J&K's problems will be resolved by the Centre and Washington has no role in this," he said, making it evident that his administration does not welcome external interference in the region's affairs.
“It would be wrong to complain about our country to an ambassador from another country,” the CM said. “It is not my habit.”
The CM also rejected BJP’s allegations of corruption against his government.
“If we believe for a second that what they are saying is right, we do not even have the power to hide it," he said.
Questioning the basis of the allegations, he asked, "Which investigative agency do I control? I don't have the police, I don't have the crime branch, and I don't have the ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau). The central agencies are far-fetched."
The CMsaid no investigating agency had reported any corruption in the matter and accused the BJP of making unfounded allegations.
"Tell me where an agency has said that there has been corruption in this matter. These agencies are controlled by the BJP. You can investigate. If there has been corruption, you can file a case against it. But these baseless allegations are being made for no reason," he said.
BJP is planning to hold a 'Secretariat Gherao' on August 31, in protest against the NC Government over issues like backdoor appointments, corruption, and governance.
On the controversy over a Kargil police FIR related to remarks on Ayatollah Khomeini, Omar urged restraint and responsibility in public discourse.
"No one should use objectionable language that could hurt sentiments or disturb harmony," he said, adding that legal processes must be allowed to proceed fairly without being weaponised against any community.
