
Plains including Srinagar lashed by rains
The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Razdan Pass and other upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received snowfall on Tuesday while the plains including Srinagar were lashed by heavy rains.
The Gulmarg witnessed fresh snowfall today, covering Affarwat and the main bowl area with a white blanket.
The snowfall brought smiles to the faces of tourists and locals alike, who were seen enjoying the chilly weather and capturing the stunning winter scenery.
The Razdan Pass, the gateway to the picturesque Gurez Valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, also witnessed fresh snowfall today evening.
Reports said Tulail received moderate snowfall while lower areas including Dawar, Bagtore, and Kanzalwan in Bandipora received intermittent rain.
Sonamarg, Baltal, and Zojila Pass in central Kashmir also reported light snowfall with 1-2 cm accumulation.
The upper reaches of Doda and Kishtwar have also received light to moderate snowfall today.
Srinagar and other plains were lashed by heavy rains in the evening.
Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif said the rain and snow is likely to continue for the next 8-10 hours, after which precipitation will gradually reduce.
According to MeT Director Kashmir Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, the weather activity is expected to continue till late night or early morning in some districts, after which conditions will improve.
“Weather is expected to remain dry from tomorrow till around November 16 or 17,” he said.
He said there could be a slight dip in daytime temperatures between November 5 and 10, along with a decrease in minimum temperatures.
“Shallow to moderate fog is likely in the coming days, which may subside later as temperature improves,” he said.
The MeT office said there is no major weather activity expected across Jammu and Kashmir till November 17.
Mukhtar advised commuters to remain cautious while traveling through higher mountain passes, including Zojila, Mughal Road, Sadhna Pass, and Sinthan Top, as light precipitation may cause temporary disruptions.
