MeT predicts another wet spell from March 22-24

JKDMA issues avalanche warning for 8 districts

The MeT department has predicted another wet spell in Jammu and Kashmir from March 22-24.
A MeT official said the weather will generally remain dry till March 20.
“A fresh Western disturbance may trigger a fresh spell of rain and snowfall at many places from March 22 to 24,” he said.
Kashmir plains were lashed by light to moderate rains, while some upper reaches, including tourist spots in Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg, received a fresh spell of snowfall during the past 24 hours.
The MeT official said Srinagar received 9.1mm of rainfall, Qazigund 24.6mm, Pahalgam 15.6mm of rainfall and 3.0cm of snowfall, Kupwara 14.9mm of rainfall, Kokernag 18.9mm, and Gulmarg 24,2mm of rainfall and 22.0cm of snowfall during the past 24 hours.
The night temperature at all stations in the Valley was recorded below normal, while the day temperature also slipped down due to rain and snowfall.
In Srinagar, the night temperature settled at 4.4 degrees Celsius during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
Qazigund recorded a low of 1.8 degrees Celsius while the night temperature in Kokernag plunged to 1.3 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature at Pahalgam dropped to -1.3 degrees Celsius.
The temperature at the ski resort of Gulmarg slipped down to -4.8 degrees Celsius.
In Kupwara, the night temperature settled at a low of 1.2 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) has issued an avalanche warning in the higher reaches of eight districts of J&K during the next 24 hours.
An avalanche with “medium danger” level is likely to occur above 2400 metres over Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban districts in Jammu division in the next 24 hours.
A similar warning has also been issued for the people living above 2400 metres in Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Baramulla districts of Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours.
People living in these areas have been advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders.
