
Srinagar, Mar 23: A Full Court Reference was held at the Srinagar Wing of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh to bid a formal farewell to Justice Javed Iqbal Wani on his retirement after attaining the age of superannuation.
The ceremony, conducted in line with the established traditions of the High Court, took place in the Chief Justice’s Court Room. It was attended by Chief Justice Arun Palli along with several sitting judges, including Justices Sanjeev Kumar, Sindhu Sharma, Rajnesh Oswal, Sanjay Dhar, Rahul Bharti, Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Rajesh Sekhri, Mohd. Yousuf Wani, Sanjay Parihar, and Shahzad Azeem. Spouses of the judges were also present.
The event saw participation from former Chief Justices and judges, senior officials from the civil administration and police, legal officers including the Secretary Law, Senior Additional Advocate General, Deputy Solicitors General of India, and members of the Bar. Representatives from the Jammu Wing joined the proceedings virtually.
Senior Additional Advocate General Mohsin Qadri, in his address, praised Justice Wani’s dedication, judicial insight, and commitment to upholding the rule of law. He highlighted the judge’s focus on ensuring justice for the underprivileged and described his tenure as one marked by fairness and integrity.
Advocate Waseem Gull, President of the Kashmir Advocates Association, also commended Justice Wani’s distinguished service and his steadfast adherence to constitutional values.
Chief Justice Arun Palli, in his remarks, lauded Justice Wani’s academic excellence, professional integrity, and balanced judicial approach. He noted that Justice Wani earned widespread respect for his discipline and clarity of thought, both as a lawyer and later as a judge. The Chief Justice also acknowledged the support of his family throughout his career and extended best wishes for his future.
In his farewell speech, Justice Wani expressed gratitude to his fellow judges, members of the Bar, judicial officers, registry staff, and court personnel for their support during his tenure. He emphasized that effective justice delivery depends on strong cooperation between the Bench and the Bar and appreciated the professionalism and dedication of the legal fraternity in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The proceedings were conducted by Registrar General M.K. Sharma. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Justice Wani was given a ceremonial Guard of Honour in recognition of his distinguished service to the judiciary.
