Kaman Aman Setu draws border tourism surge

April 26, 2026 | Shugufta Rashid/ Nisar Malik

Uri, April 25: The Kaman Aman Setu Bridge at Kaman Post, which was closed following the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, is emerging as a significant border tourism attraction, drawing increasing numbers of visitors eager to witness the Line of Control (LoC) landscape and the historic Indo-Pakistan bridge.

Once a symbol of limited cross-border interaction under the Uri-Muzaffarabad trade and travel framework, the bridge now serves as a vantage point for tourists and locals to observe the strategically important frontier area. Visitors are allowed up to designated viewing points where they can see the structure spanning the Kishanganga River and the nearby areas across the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Tourists from Odisha, while speaking to Brighter Kashmir Multimedia head , said that visiting Kaman Post was a dream come true. They expressed excitement at witnessing the border with Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir—an experience they described as rare and unforgettable—and said they felt proud seeing Indian soldiers guarding the nation under such challenging conditions.
Security personnel deployed at the Kaman Post facilitate regulated tourist movement, ensuring safety while also briefing visitors about the historical and strategic significance of the site. The area has become particularly popular among domestic tourists, researchers, and photography enthusiasts.
Officials say the growing footfall reflects a rising interest in border tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, where restricted yet accessible frontier locations are being viewed as educational and experiential destinations. The site also offers visitors insight into the challenging operational environment in which the Indian Army functions while maintaining constant vigilance along the LoC.
Local stakeholders believe that such initiatives contribute to both tourism development and greater public awareness of the region’s geopolitical realities. The serene yet sensitive landscape of Kaman Aman Setu continues to draw attention as a place where history, geography, and national security converge.
Authorities maintain strict regulation of visitor access, ensuring that tourism growth remains aligned with security protocols in the forward area.
