In a significant push for environmental awareness, healthy living, and sustainable tourism, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Mr. Imteeaz Kacho, flagged off a Bicycle Awareness Expedition from the iconic Iqbal Bridge in Kargil today.
Led by renowned environmentalist and cyclist Mohd Imtiyaz Nazrana, President of the Ladakh Educational and Development Society, the expedition will cover a scenic circuit—Kargil, Soth, Batalik, Chiktan, and back to Kargil—as part of the third phase of his ongoing campaign “Save Environment, Save Life, Boost Tourism.”
Nazrana, known for his environmental activism, earlier completed a bicycle expedition from Jammu to Ladakh in 2023. On June 15, 2025, he wrapped up the second phase by exploring a new cycling route from Umbala, Labar to Drass, earning wide community and administrative support.
ADC Imteeaz Kacho praised the initiative, highlighting the team's determination to organize the campaign without any government funding. “Their commitment to local homestays and sustainable tourism is commendable,” he said, encouraging youth to adopt green practices and utilize summer breaks for fitness and environmental stewardship. “Each student should plant two trees and explore Ladakh on bicycles. It’s a way to preserve our environment and improve well-being,” he added.
The flag-off ceremony saw participation from Range Officer Mr. Willayat Ali, other government officials, supporters, and enthusiastic locals.
Nazrana emphasized that the mission is about more than just cycling: “It’s about cultivating a culture of responsibility toward the environment, promoting healthy habits, and supporting local livelihoods through grassroots tourism,” he said. The cyclists will exclusively stay in local homestays during the journey.
The Ladakh Educational and Development Society continues to inspire meaningful community-led environmental action, positioning Ladakh as a model for eco-conscious tourism and youth engagement.
