Residents of Faizabad Dildar (A) and surrounding areas in Karnah are calling on authorities to urgently construct a safe and permanent bridge over Nallah Bat Moji, as a fragile wooden structure currently in use poses a serious threat to schoolchildren and daily commuters.
The makeshift bridge, which connects villages such as Dildar, Batpora, Kundi, Turbuni, Maqam Chanipora, and Khodpara, is the only available route for dozens of students heading to school each day. With no alternative pathway, children are forced to cross the unstable bridge, which becomes especially hazardous during rainy weather when the water level rises sharply.
Local residents describe the condition of the bridge as alarming, with worn-out planks and weak supports making it increasingly unsafe. A minor slip could lead to a major tragedy, particularly for the school-going children who rely on it every morning and afternoon.
Despite several appeals and past discussions about constructing a concrete bridge, the issue has seen little progress. Villagers say that while proposals have been floated in the past, they have repeatedly stalled without explanation.
“The current structure is no longer fit for use,” said a concerned resident. “We are just waiting for a disaster to happen. The authorities must not wait for a tragedy before acting.”
With the monsoon season approaching, anxiety among the locals is growing. Swollen streams and slippery planks make daily commuting even more dangerous, increasing the urgency for immediate government intervention.
Civil society members in Karnah have added their voice to the demand. Speaking to BK News, Civil Society Karnah General Secretary Raja Waqar issued a unified appeal to the district administration and concerned departments, urging them to begin reconstruction of a durable, all-weather bridge without delay.
Until a proper structure is put in place, residents fear the current crossing may result in a catastrophe. They stress that the safety of schoolchildren should be treated as a top priority and not be delayed any further.
The people of Karnah are hopeful that the authorities will treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves and provide a lasting solution to what they call a long-standing and potentially life-threatening issue.
