Srinagar, July 2: Amid growing concern over alleged paper leaks, repeated examination disruptions and rising academic stress, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra on Wednesday interacted with nearly 1,000 students, teachers and parents under the nationwide "Chhatron Ki Goonj" campaign launched by Rahul Gandhi.
Held in Srinagar, the programme witnessed emotional interactions as students spoke about repeated examination postponements, alleged irregularities, delayed recruitment, unemployment and the financial and psychological burden these challenges have placed on aspirants and their families.
Several students expressed concern over uncertainties surrounding competitive examinations, including alleged paper leaks and repeated rescheduling of exams such as NEET. Many described the situation as a "crisis of trust" in the education and recruitment system.
"We study day and night with the hope of securing a better future, but repeated paper leaks and delays are destroying our confidence," one student said during the interaction.
Others highlighted the mounting financial burden of coaching classes, repeated examination preparations and shrinking employment opportunities despite years of academic effort.
Addressing the gathering, Karra assured students that their concerns would continue to be raised by the Congress.
"Students are the future of the nation and their aspirations cannot be compromised. The repeated controversies surrounding examinations and recruitment have shaken the confidence of our youth. Congress will continue to fight for transparency, accountability and justice," he said.
He added that every deserving student has the right to fair examinations, timely recruitment and equal opportunities.
The event was joined virtually by Indian Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib from New Delhi. Among those present were District Congress Committee Srinagar President Dr Audil Farooq Mir, Mahila Congress President Shameema Raina, IYC In-Charge for Jammu and Kashmir Maan Singh Rathore and several Pradesh Youth Congress leaders.
Later, speaking to reporters, Karra said the Congress was the first party to launch protests at Jantar Mantar demanding restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, adding that he was pleased other political parties had now taken up the issue.
"Statehood is not a political slogan but the democratic right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
On the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra, Karra welcomed the pilgrims and said Kashmir has always upheld its tradition of hospitality and communal harmony.
The programme concluded with the Congress reiterating its commitment to continue engaging with students across Jammu and Kashmir through the "Chhatron Ki Goonj" campaign, focusing on educational reforms, transparent recruitment, mental well-being and employment opportunities.
