
Srinagar, Jan 25: The 16th National Voters’ Day (NVD) was celebrated across Kashmir on January 25, commemorating the foundation day of the Election Commission of India (1950). Observed under the theme “My India, My Vote – Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy,” the day aimed to promote electoral awareness and encourage active participation, especially among youth and first-time voters.
In Kulgam, a grand function at the Mini Secretariat featured cultural performances, a pledge ceremony, and felicitation of best-performing officers and Booth Level Officers (BLOs). ADC Kulgam, Viqar Ahmad Giri, highlighted the power of voting in nation-building, while Dy DEO Bashir Ul Hassan emphasized that every vote counts in government formation.
In Kupwara, the main event at Town Hall included a video message from the Chief Election Commissioner, administration of the Voters’ Pledge, cultural performances, and felicitation of students and officials for their contributions to voter awareness. Similar celebrations took place in Handwara, Lolab, and Tangdar subdivisions.
Shopian observed the day at the Mini Secretariat, with ADC Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz stressing informed participation and the role of first-time voters. Cultural programs, pledge administration, and felicitation of BLOs and election staff highlighted the event.
In Pulwama, a mega function at Government Degree College (Boys) featured speeches by DEO Dr. Basharat Qayoom and Dy DEO, cultural performances, Voters’ Pledge, and recognition of first-time voters, senior citizens, and election staff.
Bandipora held celebrations at N.M. Higher Secondary School, Kaloosa, with pledge ceremonies, cultural programs, EPIC distribution to new voters, and felicitation of BLOs and election officials. Events also took place in Sumbal and Gurez.
Ganderbal marked the day with DC Jatin Kishore administering the Voters’ Pledge, felicitation of new voters, and recognition of election staff for their contribution to electoral roll revision and smooth elections.
Anantnag observed NVD at GDC Women’s College with cultural programs, speeches, and emphasis on timely voter registration.
In Baramulla, a voter awareness rally was organized, culminating at Akber Chowk with active participation from students and officials.
Budgam celebrated NVD at Sheikh-ul Alam Hall, chaired by DC/DEO Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat, who emphasized that every vote counts and encouraged new voter enrolment for a stronger democracy.
Across the Kashmir division, the celebrations reinforced the importance of informed voting, electoral participation, and citizen-centric democracy.
