The championship witnessed strong participation from across the Union Territory, making Hoor’s achievement all the more noteworthy.

Hoor Fatima’s latest triumph adds to her growing reputation as one of the youngest and most promising chess players from the region. Despite her tender age, she displayed remarkable composure, strategic understanding, and competitive maturity throughout the tournament, drawing praise from coaches, organizers, and fellow players.
This victory is the latest milestone in an already remarkable chess journey. Hoor Fatima first gained international attention when she clinched the Champion’s Cup in the Under-8 category at the Field Marshal Sheikh Khalifa Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa First Ramadan Chess Tournament in Bahrain, where she competed against young players from several countries. Her performance at the event marked her as a prodigy to watch on the global chess stage.
She has also finished first in the Under-6 category at the Blitz Tournament organized by the Chess Championship Academy of Bahrain and secured first place along with the ‘Youngest Player’ award at the Jeddah Festival Tournament in Saudi Arabia. At the national level, Hoor represented Jammu and Kashmir at the National Under-11 Chess Championship held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, gaining valuable exposure against India’s best young talents.
Back home, she created history by emerging as the youngest champion at both the second and third editions of the Kashmir Open International FIDE-rated Chess Tournaments.
Hoor Fatima’s remarkable journey has also earned her recognition on the global stage beyond tournament results. She was featured by Rita Atkins, Secretary of FIDE EDU’s Chess in Education Commission, as one of three young chess prodigies worldwide highlighted for their inspirational impact. In the feature titled “Chess as a Tool for Empowering Girls”, Atkins wrote that “chess, as Hoor’s achievements show, can be a springboard for personal and intellectual development, giving girls a voice despite the obstacles they confront,” underscoring how Hoor’s accomplishments illustrate the wider educational and social value of chess for children, especially girls.
Hoor Fatima’s consistent performances across local, national, and international platforms reflect not only her natural talent but also the growing chess culture in Kashmir. Her success at the J&K UT Chess Championship stands as a proud moment for the region and signals a bright future ahead for the young chess prodigy.
