
Kashmir shivered through another freezing night, with minimum temperatures plunging 3 to 6 degrees below the freezing point across the Valley.
A MeT official said Srinagar recorded a low of –4.4°C during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, which was 3.2 degrees below normal.
Shopian in south Kashmir remained the coldest place in the Valley with the night temperature settling at –5.9°C, followed by Konibal Pampore at –5.0°C and Pahalgam at –4.6°C.
Kokernag recorded a low of–1.2°C while Qazigund recorded –3.6°C.
The border district of Kupwara registered a low of –4.1°C, while the night temperature in the ski resort of Gulmarg settled at –2.6°C.
Meanwhile, day and night temperatures showed contrasting trends across Jammu and Kashmir. Maximum temperatures in many parts of the Valley remained 1 to 4 degrees above normal, whereas in the Jammu division they stayed 0 to 1 degree below normal.
The Meteorological Department has forecast mainly dry weather across J&K over the next 24 hours. For the following two days, conditions are expected to remain generally dry with a possibility of isolated light rain or snowfall over higher reaches.
