
A team of mountaineers from Srinagar and Bandipora has achieved a remarkable feat by completing the first recorded ascent of Mt Harmukh’s Eastern Peak (5100 meters). The team, led by Nawab Moazam Khan, also set a record by completing the fastest ascent and descent of the peak in just 46 hours, covering the route from Kudara Village to Kudara Village.
About Nawab Moazam Khan:
Nawab Moazam Khan is a well-known adventurist and multisport athlete from Kashmir. With a passion for mountaineering and endurance sports, he has represented the region in numerous national and international events. He previously took part in the Indian Mountaineering Foundation’s (IMF) Everest Massif Expedition in 2021, demonstrating his expertise in high-altitude climbing. He is also actively involved in promoting adventure tourism in Kashmir and serves as the trek manager for the Great Lakes Trek.
Apart from mountaineering, Nawab has excelled in other endurance sports. While pursuing his studies in Malaysia, he participated in the Swimathon held in Pattaya, Thailand, a 10-kilometre open-water swimming competition. He completed the swim in 3 hours and 44 minutes, finishing first in his age group (20–29 years) and 15th overall among international participants.

About Mt Harmukh:
Mt Harmukh, standing at 5142 meters in the Kashmir Himalayas, is known for its rugged terrain and spiritual significance. While the main summit has been climbed several times, the Eastern Peak at 5100 meters had never been summited before this expedition. The team also reached the Middle Peak at 5040 meters, which had been climbed in earlier expeditions.
Expedition Timeline:
10 September 2025: The team started from Kudara at 6:50 PM, reached Meemargi at 9:00 PM, and camped overnight at Dhoka.
11 September 2025: The team began from Meemargi at 5:00 AM, reached the Advanced Base Camp at 4700 meters by 11:00 AM, summited the Middle Peak at 2:00 PM, and reached the Eastern Peak at 4:30 PM. They descended back to the base camp by 8:00 PM.
12 September 2025: The team left the base camp at 8:00 AM and safely returned to Kudara by 4:30 PM.
