One of the most remarkable qualities of Kashmiris is their legendary hospitality. The concept of "Mehman Nawazi" (hospitality) is deeply ingrained in their culture. Guests are considered a blessing, and they are treated with immense respect and warmth.
When a guest visits a Kashmiri home, they are welcomed with a steaming cup of Sugar Tea(Commonly known as Lipton Chai) Kahwa (traditional saffron tea) or Nun Chai (salt tea). A traditional Kashmiri meal, often served on a Wazwan (a grand feast), is an expression of love and respect. The idea behind such grand hospitality is not just about food but about making the guest feel valued and cherished.
This deep-rooted hospitality reflects the soft-hearted nature of Kashmiris. They believe in sharing what they have, no matter how little, and making others feel at home. Even strangers and travellers passing through Kashmir often speak of the incredible warmth they receive from the locals.

And distributed there. During harsh winters or difficult times, the sense of brotherhood and unity among Kashmiris becomes even more evident. 2014 a year of distress for Kashmiris as Flood havoc the Srinagar city and the adjacent areas of rivers. But people left no stone unturned in helping those people. During this winter many tourists stuck on the way due to snow. So people welcomed them in their homes, and many felt safe even in mosques despite they were Hindu's.
Another heart touching aspect of every Kashmiri house hold is Compassion with animals. Despite facing many hardships themselves, many Kashmiris keep a part of both lunch and dinner and go out of their way to feed stray dogs, birds, and other animals. This love for all living beings is a true testament to their soft-hearted nature.

The Influence of Awliyas

Awliya have played a significant role in shaping the Kashmiri way of life. The teachings of Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani (Nund Rishi)(RA), Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom (RA), Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani (RA) etc. have instilled values of love, patience, and kindness in the hearts of Kashmiris.
They emphasized selflessness, devotion to God, and love for humanity. It encouraged people to see beyond material wealth and focus on inner peace and spiritual well-being. This philosophy has deeply influenced Kashmiris, making them naturally inclined toward compassion and understanding.

Those who are 60 and 70 born, are laden with generosity. In rural areas, these women share their eatables with their neighbour. They even share the cheese which is made to the first milk of that cow who has given birth to the calf. Their nurturing spirit is a key reason why Kashmiris, as a whole, are known for their soft hearts.

While the natural disposition of Kashmiris is one of kindness, the modern world presents new challenges. Economic difficulties, political tensions, and social changes sometimes make it harder for people to maintain their traditional values.
