Keep Students Hooked on their Studies

Being a private teacher, it is an exaggeration to call myself a teacher. However, I feel it fitting to call myself a learner. When I teach students, I am unable to keep motivated forever

Teaching is the most difficult profession in the world. How difficult it is, will be discussed later in the article. However, now, the time is apt to throw some light on different professions, keeping the profession of teaching at the top of the table. The basic necessities of life are fulfilled by earning a livelihood. Without livelihood, all life is null and void. It is earning that makes the life what it is. Earning comes from different professions and jobs. From farmer to a sweeper, the teacher also plays its role in a complex society. Apart from the ‘bread and butter aim of education’, teaching demands many things from a tutor. It is not all about solving the questions or parroting dates in the fastest manner possible. Neither it is all about tricks of getting full marks. It is something more. What is it all about? There are diverse opinions regarding this. There is no unanimity regarding this. It seems impossible to come to a consensus on this. However, there is a common thread found in all diverse educational climates of the world. The commonest among them is to keep the students hooked on their studies in and out of the educational institutions.

Being a private teacher, it is an exaggeration to call myself a teacher. However, I feel it fitting to call myself a learner. When I teach students, I am unable to keep motivated forever. For a moment, they feel energetic and enthusiastic by my words. However, my influence on them is like the sudden upsurge of energy for nothing tangible. Though they are attentive in my classes, I am unable to keep them engaged in a more systematic and long-lasting manner. My teaching of them is like writing on water. This loophole of mine made me to think where the loophole lies and eventually I have come to know the root of problems. I was miserably failing in keeping my students hooked on their studies. In other words, I was unable to relate their studies with their practical lives. In simple words, I had been falling in making education a passion and zest for them. My words, though meaningful, have been knocking on the wrong door. Instead of pushing the doors, I have been teaching them how to pull the doors, leaving them perspiring in sweat for nothing concrete. Skinning the dead horse was what I did and it made to opt for the novel method of converting education into a passionate experience.
Keeping students hooked on their studies in a fruitful manner has long-lasting advantages. The first is interest in getting education. Education becomes a source of fun and an entertaining entity when students remain hooked on their studies. Seeing the education as a nice thing to chase, they willingly embark on a path of gainful instructions and embrace every difficulty with open hands. The second is raising the status of education to the highest level. When students get strongly attached to their pursuit of proper formal knowledge, then it raises the bar of education to the topmost level and this kind of education radiates light in all directions. The beholders are enthralled at the beauty of this scintillating pedagogy. The third is the glittering future. When the future generations are engaged in a serene atmosphere of magnificent learning, the future prospects attain towering proportions and there is cent per cent chances of high yield in all walks of life. The surroundings begin to throw fragrance in every direction and the pious learning fill the souls of the students’ chests with permanent smell.
In conclusion, let us try our best to keep students hooked on their studies in every possible way. In the age of distractions, it looks impossible to do this task. However, it becomes easy when done efficiently and under proper guidance. The experts may come handy in this way. Their valuable suggestions will have a visible influence in the long run. Though the path is full of thorns and is fraught with unimaginable hurdles, keeping head high and souls open will help us to manoeuvre every hurdle to uplift the morale of students and keep them energetic and kicking on this path. So, let us pledge that we won’t leave any stone unturned in making education the topmost priority for the students and engage them in the educational pursuits that are high yielding and tension free. Come future and then all we be audited. Till then let us keep our fingers crossing and keep hoping against hope.
