KU celebrates Constitution Day

Srinagar, Nov 26: The School of Law, University of Kashmir (KU), celebrated Constitution Day 2025 at the Main Campus to promote constitutional literacy and highlight the core values of democracy, justice, equality and liberty enshrined in the Constitution of India. The event marked the adoption of the Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, highlighted the relevance of understanding the Constitution both as a legal document and as a moral guide for civic life.
“Every principle laid down in the preamble is crafted with wisdom and vision that continues to steer our nation,” she said, urging students to engage meaningfully with constitutional values.
Dean College Development Council KU, Prof. Khursheed Butt, stressed on the role of constitutional awareness in shaping responsible citizenship, adding that "learning about constitutional provisions and respecting the law strengthens the collective fabric of the nation.”
Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, reflected on the Constitution as a guarantor of dignity and equality for all citizens and emphasised that its guiding principles must be upheld in everyday life to preserve justice and fairness.
Earlier, Dean and Head, School of Law KU, Prof. Shahnaz, spoke about the historical significance of Constitution Day and acknowledged the contributions of the leaders and freedom fighters who shaped the foundational document. Students from the School of Law also presented brief reflections on the relevance of the Constitution in contemporary times.
The event was attended by Controller of Examinations KU, Prof. Majid Zaman Baba; Dean Students’ Welfare KU, Prof. Pervez Ahmed; Director IT & SS KU, Dr. Maroof Qadri, besides officers from the University administration, faculty members, scholars and students.
The event concluded with a pledge, as participants reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity as enshrined in the Constitution of India.
The event proceedings were conducted by Dr. Yasir Latief Handoo, while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Syed Asima Refayi, faculty at the School of Law KU.
