
Approves key academic initiatives
The University of Kashmir (KU) convened its 100th Syndicate and Finance Committee meetings, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan, to discuss and approve several important academic and administrative decisions aimed at strengthening the University’s growth and student-centric reforms.
The meetings were attended by Shri Shantmanu (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department J&K, Shri Santosh D. Vaidya (IAS), Principal Secretary, Finance Department J&K, along with other members of the University’s statutory bodies and distinguished academicians.
Prof. Nilofer Khan highlighted the University’s recent achievements, including NAAC A accreditation, ranking 8th among State Public Universities (SPUs) and 34th overall in NIRF 2025, as well as initiatives to enhance e-governance, research, and academic quality.
Key decisions approved included:
Establishment of an Institute of Nursing & Paramedical Sciences at the Kupwara Campus.
Formation of high-level committees to develop Perspective Plans for all satellite campuses aligned with the University Centenary Vision 2047, focusing on academic expansion, sustainable infrastructure, and employment generation.
Introduction of new academic programmes under NEP-2020, including:
Diploma in Criminal Justice (ODL mode)
Five-Year Integrated Masters Programs in Mass Communication, Data Science & AI, Applied Geology, Tourism & Travel Management, Home Science, Persian, Linguistics, and Kashmiri
Adoption of a policy for admission of international students.
Approval of faculty appointments, promotions, and new employee welfare schemes.
The meetings were attended by senior academicians and administrators, including Prof. Devesh K. Sinha (University of Delhi), Dr. Reicha Tanwar (Kurukshetra University), Prof. Rajeev Rattan (University of Jammu), Prof. Aneesa Shafi (Dean, Social Sciences KU), and other senior officers. Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal presented the agenda items to the committees.
Members appreciated KU’s initiatives towards employee welfare, student employability, and quality assurance. Concluding the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan expressed gratitude to the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, and Government Departments of Higher Education and Finance for their support, reaffirming the University’s commitment to transparency, meritocracy, and academic excellence.
