Srinagar Sep 21: The Directorate of Information Technology and Support Services (IT&SS), University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with the J&K Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (JK4C), J&K Police, organised a cyber awareness workshop at the Main Campus.

It aimed to sensitise students, faculty members and University officials about emerging cyber threats, digital safety and responsible online practices.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, emphasised the growing importance of cybersecurity awareness in an increasingly digital environment and stressed on the need to equip the University community with the knowledge to navigate cyberspace safely and responsibly.
"We must equip our students, faculty and staff with the awareness and practical knowledge needed to protect themselves and the University’s digital ecosystem from emerging cyber threats,” she said.
Registrar, KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, underscored the importance of collective responsibility and sustained awareness in addressing challenges in the digital domain.
Prof. Mubashir Hussain Masoodi, Dean, School of Applied Sciences, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the need for greater awareness about evolving digital threats.
SSP, JK4C, Mohammad Yaseen Kichloo, IPS, conducted the technical session, covering emerging cyber threats, online fraud, cyber hygiene and digital safety, besides demonstrating common cyber risks and preventive measures. The session also featured hands-on demonstrations and an interactive discussion with participants.
The programme also included an interaction between Mr. Kichloo and students on cyber safety, online security and responsible digital practices.
Earlier, Director, IT&SS KU, Dr. Maroof Naieem Qadri, highlighted the need for sustained cyber awareness, good cyber hygiene and capacity building to strengthen the University’s digital ecosystem.
Nasir Kirmani, DySP, Zonal Cyber Police Kashmir, along with other JK4C officials, faculty members, students and University officials, actively participated in the workshop.
