The Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), University of Kashmir (KU), organised a one-day orientation workshop on “Integrating New Faculty into the University Quality Culture” here on Tuesday.

The workshop aimed to familiarize newly inducted faculty members with the university’s quality assurance framework, policies, and web-based systems. It also focused on enhancing understanding of teaching, research, and service quality standards that guide the institution’s academic environment.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, said, “Building a culture of quality begins with awareness and accountability. Our goal is to ensure that every faculty member understands their role in strengthening institutional standards and contributing to continuous improvement.” She added that such initiatives reflect the University’s collective commitment to excellence and transparency in academic and administrative functioning.

Dean Academic Affairs KU, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, highlighted the need for consistent efforts to align individual teaching and research practices with institutional benchmarks. Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, said that quality assurance is a continuous process that demands collective commitment and highlighted that every member of the academic community has a vital role in strengthening the university’s quality culture.

Earlier, Director DIQA KU, Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Shah, in his welcome address, said that the workshop serves as a platform for new faculty to understand the university’s expectations, quality mechanisms, and avenues for academic growth.

A joint team from the Directorate of IT & SS and DIQA demonstrated the use of the DIQA web portal and conducted hands-on training for the participants. Faculty members were also apprised of best practices in research publishing and strategies for maintaining academic integrity.

The event concluded with an interactive question–answer session where participants shared their feedback and sought clarifications on institutional quality processes. The event proceedings were conducted by Prof. Aijaz Akbar, Deputy Director, DIQA KU, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Sakib Rashid, Research Assistant, DIQA KU.
