
The Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Kashmir (KU), organised a special lecture on “Inspiring Young Minds for Public Service” for civil services aspirants at the Main Campus. The event aimed to motivate aspirants towards a career in public service and familiarise them with strategies, perspectives, and essential approaches required for cracking competitive examinations.
Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, in her message, said that the University is committed to nurturing young talent and encouraging them to take leadership roles in public service.
“Our goal is to provide meaningful guidance and create an enabling ecosystem where students are inspired to serve society with integrity, empathy and vision,” she said.
Delivering the lecture, Anil Swarup (IAS Retd.), former Coal Secretary, Government of India, said that dedication, discipline and clarity of purpose remain the most powerful tools in an aspirant’s journey.
“If you build the ability to think clearly, stay consistent and remain rooted in values, the service will become not just a career but a responsibility towards society,” he remarked.
Khurshid Ganai (IAS Retd.), former Advisor to the Governor J&K, in his address, said that the civil services offer a unique opportunity to transform governance on the ground and encouraged aspirants to prepare with sincerity and focused effort.
Earlier, Dean DSW KU, Prof. Parvez Ahmad welcomed the guests and said that the University is continuously creating platforms that guide aspirants and strengthen their preparation journey.
Director, Centre for Career Counselling, Coaching and Placement (CCCP) KU, Prof. Nazir Ahmad said such sessions play a vital role in shaping the mindset of youth and giving them clarity on the demands and expectations of civil services.
The event concluded with an interactive question–answer session, during which students engaged with the speakers on preparation strategies, challenges, and their experiences in public service. The session was moderated by Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, Cultural Officer, DSW KU.
