
Srinagar, July 5: The University of Kashmir on Sunday flagged off its National Youth Parliament team to New Delhi, where it will receive the prestigious National Championship Award in the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition (2025–26) at Parliament House.
The 50-member contingent is led by Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, Cultural Officer and Coordinator of the National Youth Parliament, who mentored the championship-winning team throughout the competition.
In her message, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan described the achievement as a celebration of knowledge, leadership and democratic values.
"Our students' recognition at Parliament House is not merely an award but a powerful affirmation of the vision, intellect and confidence of Kashmir's youth. This historic achievement will inspire generations of students to dream bigger, think deeper and lead with integrity," she said, congratulating the team and wishing them success.
Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal said the accomplishment reflected the University's culture of excellence, discipline and perseverance.
"Being honoured at the Parliament of India is a rare distinction and a proud milestone for the University. I congratulate the students and appreciate the dedicated mentorship that helped transform their talent into national excellence," he said.
The flag-off ceremony was led by Prof. Majid Zaman, Controller of Examinations, in the presence of Prof. Pervez Ahmad, Dean, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Prof. Seema Singh, Dean Students' Welfare, Prof. Imtiyaz Ahmed, Chief Proctor, faculty members, university officials, students and parents.
Congratulating the team, Prof. Majid Zaman said the honour reflected the dedication, discipline and academic excellence of the University's students.
Dean Students' Welfare Prof. Seema Singh described the recognition as a historic milestone, saying it showcased the University's commitment to nurturing leadership, responsible citizenship and holistic development.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Pervez Ahmad said the Youth Parliament platform provides students with a deeper understanding of democratic institutions, constitutional values and public policy while strengthening their leadership potential.
