
Kupwara celebrated women’s strength and sportsmanship as the ASMlTA Khelo India Women’s Rugby League 2025 unfolded at Galizoo Stadium on October 4, 2025. The event brought together around 150 female athletes from across the district, competing in Under-15, Under-18, and Senior Women categories.
The league, under the banner “Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women through Action,” highlighted talent, determination, and teamwork, inspiring young girls to embrace sports fearlessly. The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Yassir Ahmad (SHO Kupwara) as Chief Guest, along with Mr. Ab Ahad (Scout Officer, District Youth Services & Sports Kupwara) and volleyball player Ms. Neelofar Sadiq as Guests of Honour, who lauded the athletes’ discipline and courage.

Under-15: 1st Lightning Strikers Kupwara, 2nd Doon International Batergam, 3rd Scientific School Tikker
Under-18: 1st Thunder Hawks, 2nd Elite Educational Institute, 3rd MNS Wolves
Senior Women: 1st Kins Rugby Club Kupwara, 2nd Kupwara Beaters, 3rd GSA Kupwara
The event was supported by the Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Rugby India, Jammu & Kashmir Rugby Association, and Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council. Local organizers, coaches, and volunteers played a pivotal role in ensuring its success.
The league not only showcased athletic excellence but also empowered women, sending a strong message that Kupwara’s daughters are ready to excel in sports on national and international platforms.
