In a historic achievement, Mehreen Jan has become the first girl from Kupwara district to win a gold medal at the prestigious 8th Wushu Federation Cup 2025, held in Chhattisgarh from March 25 to 27. Representing the Khelo India Centre (KIC), Handwara, the young athlete showcased exceptional skill, resilience, and determination, securing victory after five hard-fought bouts.
Mehreen’s win not only marks a personal triumph but also represents a significant milestone for the Kupwara district and the broader Jammu and Kashmir sports community. Following her victory, Mehreen expressed deep gratitude to Miss Nuzhat Gull, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, for her unwavering support of athletes from underserved areas.
