
The NSS Unit of the University of Kashmir (KU) today celebrated National Youth Day on the eve of the 164th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda by organising a day-long programme under the nationwide initiative Run for Swadeshi / Swadeshi Sankalp Run.
The event aimed to inspire youth to embrace the ideals of self-reliance, social responsibility, national pride, and active participation in nation-building, in line with the vision of Swami Vivekananda.
In her message on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, highlighted the relevance of National Youth Day in shaping socially conscious and responsible citizens.
“Swami Vivekananda’s ideas continue to guide generations of young people towards self-belief, discipline, and service to society. Such events motivate our youth to reflect on their role in building a self-reliant and inclusive nation,” she said.
The event featured a series of motivational talks by academic experts-Dr. Javaid ul Aziz, faculty at Department of History, KU, and
Dr. Farrukh Faheem, faculty at IKS, KU, and youth leader, Muzamil Mehmood, focusing on Swami Vivekananda’s ideals, the role of youth in nation-building, social change, and the importance of civic engagement.
The speakers highlighted how young people can channelise their energy towards constructive social causes while remaining rooted in indigenous knowledge systems and ethical values.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Wakar Amin, Programme Coordinator, NSS KU, said that National Youth Day serves as an important reminder of the power and responsibility vested in young people.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers, students, and faculty members.
The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Humaira Showkat, Programme Officer, NSS KU, while the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Yasir Hamid, Programme Officer, NSS KU.
