Srinagar, Sep 8: President Droupadi Murmu Tuesday assigned Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena to discharge the functions of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir during the absence on leave of incumbent J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.
According to a Press Communique issued by the President's Secretariat, Saxena will hold the additional charge of the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor's office alongside his existing responsibilities as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
"The President of India is pleased to appoint Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lt. Governor of Ladakh to discharge the functions of the Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, in addition to his own duties, during the absence, on leave, of Shri Manoj Sinha, Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir," the communique said.
The arrangement will remain in force for the period of Sinha's leave.
Saxena will oversee the constitutional and administrative responsibilities of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor's office in addition to his duties in the union Territory of Ladakh.
Saxena, who served as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, took over as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, earlier this year.
Manoj Sinha has been serving as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir since August 2020, following the reorganisation of the erstwhile state into the union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in 2019.
The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 created the two union Territories after the Centre revoked the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir.
