
Kargil, Jan 23:Team Taekwondo Union Territory of Ladakh participated in the 2nd Federation Cup Taekwondo Championship, held at SMS Indoor Stadium, Jaipur, Rajasthan, from January 18 to 23, 2026.
A contingent of 12 athletes — including 8 girls and 4 boys — accompanied by Taekwondo Coach Mohd Ali, represented Ladakh in Cadet, Junior, and Senior categories across Kyorugi and Poomsae events.
The Ladakh team delivered an impressive performance at the national level. In Poomsae, Shanaz Parveen won a Bronze Medal in Individual Poomsae and another Bronze in Pair Poomsae, while Sonam Chospal secured a Bronze Medal in Pair Poomsae. In Kyorugi, Zahara Batool clinched a Bronze Medal in the Under-53 kg weight category. Additionally, two Ladakh players reached the quarterfinal stage in their respective events.
Taekwondo continues to be one of the most successful sports disciplines in Ladakh, consistently bringing laurels at both national and international levels.
Nissar Hussain Balkhani Technical Director, LTA congratulated the entire team for their commendable achievement. He also expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Secretary Sports UT Ladakh Moses Kunzang, and Joint Director Youth Services & Sports UT Ladakh Tahir Hussain Zubdavi for their continued support to sportspersons, and hoped that such encouragement would continue in the future.
