Srinagar, Jan 15: Education and Health Minister Sakina Itoo on Thursday clarified that the proposed Law University in Jammu and Kashmir can be established at any location within the Union Territory, emphasizing that its benefits will extend to students from all regions.
Speaking to reporters, Itoo stated that the NC government is committed to providing equal opportunities for children from Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. “For the NC government, children from all regions are equal. The Law University can be set up anywhere—be it Baramulla, Anantnag, or Budgam—but its beneficiaries will be students from across Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
Addressing protests by certain groups in Jammu advocating for the university to be established exclusively in the region, the minister said some elements were attempting to sow division within the UT. “People are free to make demands. They can even propose establishing two universities—one in Kashmir and another in Jammu,” she added, underlining the government’s commitment to inclusivity and regional balance.
