Srinagar, Sep 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday attended the concluding ceremony of the 11th Mega Eye Surgery Camp conducted under Operation Drishti and appreciated the Indian Army’s efforts to provide specialised healthcare services in Jammu and Kashmir.
A total of 364 eye surgeries were performed during the latest camp in Srinagar and Tangdhar, Kupwara. Of these, 144 surgeries were carried out in Srinagar, while 220 patients underwent procedures in Tangdhar over two days.
Speaking at the event, Sinha praised the Armed Forces medical teams for carrying out the surgeries and described the initiative as an effort driven by service and compassion.
He highlighted the Tangdhar camp as a significant achievement, noting that it was the first mega eye surgery camp organised in the border area. He said the difficult terrain and geographical conditions posed logistical challenges for the medical teams.
Advanced surgical equipment was transported to Tangdhar by air to facilitate the procedures. Patients from Tangdhar, Khawarpora, Bagbella and adjoining areas benefited from the medical camp.
Sinha said the initiative had helped improve the lives of beneficiaries by restoring their vision and providing them with renewed independence and confidence.
He said Operation Drishti has so far enabled eye examinations for more than 1.5 lakh people across the country, with over 3,500 surgeries conducted in 10 cities.
The Lieutenant Governor appreciated the doctors, soldiers, support personnel and Air Force teams involved in transporting equipment and setting up medical facilities in difficult conditions.
He said the experience demonstrated that advanced medical services can reach remote areas through proper planning, coordination and commitment.
During the programme, Sinha felicitated doctors and medical personnel of the Defence Forces and distributed post-operative kits among beneficiaries.
