
Poonch/Rajouri, July 20: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday visited the flood-hit areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts to assess the situation and meet families affected by the recent disaster.
Sharma, who led a BJP delegation comprising Ravinder Raina, Sham Lal Sharma (MLA), Shehnaz Ganie, Gopal Mahajan, Mohan Lal (MLA), and Zorawar Singh, interacted with residents, listened to their grievances, and reviewed the extent of the damage caused by the floods.
Expressing concern over the hardships faced by the affected families, Sharma assured them of continued support and urged the district administration to expedite relief and rehabilitation measures. He stressed the need for prompt rescue operations, immediate distribution of relief, restoration of essential services, and implementation of a comprehensive rehabilitation plan to help people rebuild their lives.
He said a detailed report on the flood situation in Poonch and Rajouri, including the damage, losses, and rehabilitation requirements, would be submitted to the Central Government. According to Sharma, the concerns and demands of the affected families would be taken up with the appropriate authorities to ensure timely assistance.
Sharma also said the Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has consistently extended support to people during times of crisis and expressed confidence that all possible assistance would be sought through coordination with the concerned agencies.
Emphasising the need for coordinated efforts, Sharma called on all departments and agencies to work with urgency and sensitivity to ensure that relief reaches the affected families without delay. He said the issues of the flood-hit residents of Poonch and Rajouri should be addressed on priority to facilitate their recovery and rehabilitation.
The BJP delegation reiterated its commitment to standing with the affected people and assured that their concerns would continue to be raised before the concerned authorities to secure timely relief and long-term rehabilitation.
