LPG shortage hits Charar residents

March 18, 2026 | BK News Service

Budgam, Mar 17T: Residents of the Kanidajan area in Charar-e-Sharif in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have alleged a complete disruption in LPG supply, saying households are facing severe hardship due to the unavailability of cooking gas.

Locals said there has been “zero supply” of LPG cylinders in the area for several days, forcing families to struggle with daily cooking needs.
The issue assumes significance as authorities have recently maintained that there is sufficient fuel stock available in the region.
Villagers alleged that the local distributor, Alamdar Bharat Gas Agency, has been refusing to provide cylinders, citing lack of supply from upstream sources.
“There is absolutely no gas available. We have been repeatedly visiting the agency but are told that no supply has been received,” a local resident said.
The shortage has affected a large number of households in the area, with people reporting that they are being forced to resort to alternative and less convenient means of cooking.
“We appeal to the government to look into the matter and provide relief. People are suffering due to non-availability of basic fuel,” another resident said.
Earlier, Minister Satish Sharma had stated that there was adequate fuel stock available, but locals said the situation on the ground reflects otherwise.
