Lt Gen Ghai highlights NE security at AR-USI Seminar

New Delhi, Mar 10: The Assam Rifles – United Service Institution of India (USI) Annual Seminar was held on 10 March 2026 at the Maj Gen Samir Sinha Auditorium, USI, New Delhi, focusing on the theme “Security Challenges to the North East: Assessment & Way Forward.”

The seminar was graced by Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, SYSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM*, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy)** as the Chief Guest. He delivered the keynote address on the evolving security dynamics of the North Eastern Region, highlighting the complex interplay of internal, border, and regional challenges.
Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles, and Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, NM (Retd), Director USI, also addressed the seminar, sharing insightful perspectives on emerging threats, regional stability, and the importance of a holistic approach to peace and security in the North East.
The event brought together senior officers of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, members of academia, policy practitioners, and media representatives to deliberate on critical issues including border management, regional developments, counter-insurgency strategies, and the impact of the evolving information and cyber landscape on security.
The discussions emphasized the strategic role of Assam Rifles as both the “Sentinels of the North East” and “Friends of the Hill People,” showcasing its efforts in maintaining peace, stability, and development in the region while working closely with local communities.
Participants noted the need for integrated approaches combining military, intelligence, and socio-economic initiatives to effectively address challenges in the North East and strengthen long-term security frameworks.
The seminar concluded with a reaffirmation of Assam Rifles’ pivotal role in ensuring regional stability and supporting national security objectives in one of India’s most sensitive and strategically important regions.
