
In a landmark step towards strengthening operational logistics in the High Altitude Areas of Ladakh, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Commander, Northern Command, inaugurated the Indian Army’s first-of-its-kind Project Sena Sarthi at Leh today. The project marks a major leap in enhancing strategic fuel storage capabilities in the Kargil Sector Project Sena Sarthi developed in collaboration with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), includes the commissioning of advanced underground fuel, oil, and lubricant (FOL) storage facilities designed specifically to withstand the extreme climatic and geographical challenges of the region. The e-inauguration was jointly carried out by Lt Gen Pratik Sharma and Shri Subhankar Sen, Director Marketing, BPCL, in the presence of Lt Gen Hitesh Bhalla, Corps Commander, Fire & Fury Corps, and Lt Gen Mukesh Chadha, Senior Colonel Commandant, Army Services Corps Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma highlighted that Project Sena Sarthi embodies the Army’s vision of achieving unmatched logistical self-sufficiency in high-altitude operational zones. He emphasized that the enhancement in underground storage capacity—doubling fuel reserves within a single season, an achievement unparalleled in the last 25 years—will ensure uninterrupted support to troops deployed in some of the harshest terrains in the world The project not only represents a major infrastructure milestone but also reinforces the strong and enduring partnership between the Indian Army and BPCL. Together, the two institutions are working to build resilient, modern, and efficient logistics systems that guarantee sustained operational preparedness along critical border areas.
