Kolkata, April 1: Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan, PVSM, AVSM, YSM assumed charge today as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command in a formal ceremony at the Eastern Command Headquarters, Kolkata Military Station.

The ceremony began with Lt Gen Krishnan paying homage to fallen soldiers at the Eastern Command War Memorial, reflecting the Indian Army’s enduring respect for its #Bravehearts. He then inspected the Guard of Honour presented by the troops, a traditional gesture symbolizing discipline, professionalism, and operational readiness.
Lt Gen Krishnan brings a distinguished operational and leadership profile to the appointment, having held key command and staff roles across challenging terrains and operational theatres. His career highlights include commanding troops in counter-insurgency operations, operational planning at corps and command levels, and contributions to capability development and modernization initiatives.
In his address, the GOC-in-C emphasized operational preparedness, troop welfare, and strengthening coordination with civil authorities to ensure peace and stability in the Eastern Command’s area of responsibility. Senior officers, staff, and personnel of the Eastern Command attended the ceremony, witnessing the seamless transfer of responsibility and the reaffirmation of the Army’s commitment to national security.
