Kohima, Jan 20 : Major General Harinder Singh Mavi assumed command as the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) on 19 January 2026, taking over from Major General Manish Kumar, Sena Medal (Bar). The formal handover ceremony was conducted with full military honours, reflecting the traditions, discipline, and decorum of the Indian Armed Forces.

During the ceremony, both officers emphasized the continuing commitment of Assam Rifles to maintain border security, internal stability, and community engagement in the northeastern region. Maj Gen Mavi, a seasoned officer with extensive operational and leadership experience, expressed his determination to uphold the operational efficiency and morale of the force while enhancing its role in supporting local communities.
Major General Manish Kumar highlighted the unit’s achievements under his tenure, including operational readiness, humanitarian assistance, and coordination with local authorities. He wished Maj Gen Mavi success in leading the force forward in its multifaceted role along the sensitive borders of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and neighboring regions.
