Srinagar, Sep 15: Thirteen depositors affected by the alleged Shopian HDFC Bank fraud have received around Rs 4.50 crore following an investigation by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K.
According to the Crime Branch, the case pertains to FIR No. 30/2025 registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act following a complaint regarding alleged financial irregularities at HDFC Bank’s Shopian branch.
The case was subsequently transferred to the Crime Branch J&K on the directions of Police Headquarters for a detailed investigation.
During the probe, EOW Kashmir identified five principal accused, including former branch managers and employees of HDFC Bank who were posted at its Shopian and Pulwama branches. All five accused were arrested on February 18, 2026.
The investigation was later completed and EOW Kashmir filed a chargesheet against 11 accused persons before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian, in May 2026.
The refund of around Rs 4.50 crore to 13 depositors has provided significant relief to those affected by the alleged financial irregularities.
The criminal proceedings in the case are continuing before the competent court. EOW Kashmir said it remains committed to pursuing the matter to its logical conclusion and ensuring action against the accused in accordance with law.
