Man Booked in Shopian for Alleged Government Official Impersonation, Online Fraud
Shopian, Oct 3: Police have registered a case against a man in Shopian for allegedly impersonating government officials on social media and using fake identities to deceive people.
The accused has been identified as Umer Shamaim Ganie, a resident of Meemandar in Shopian.
According to the allegations, Ganie allegedly posed as officials associated with various government administrative offices through social media platforms and made fraudulent representations to different individuals.
The case includes allegations of cheating and fraud, criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint.
Police have registered FIR No. 207/2026 at Police Station Shopian under Sections 204, 318(2), 319(2), 351(2) and 126(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
