
Poonch, Jan 25 : An elderly man was detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police in Poonch district after allegedly sharing objectionable material on social media that authorities say could have triggered communal tension.
Police sources said the man, identified as 60-year-old Onkar Singh from the Kamsar locality of Poonch town, uploaded content that was found to be offensive in nature and potentially harmful to public peace.
Soon after the post came to the notice of the police, action was initiated and the accused was taken into custody. Officials confirmed that a formal case has been registered under applicable legal provisions and investigations are ongoing to ascertain further details.
Police officials emphasized that any attempt to disturb communal harmony or spread hatred through online platforms will not be tolerated. They cautioned users against misusing social media, stating that strict legal action would follow in such cases.
Meanwhile, the police advised citizens to remain cautious and responsible while sharing content online and encouraged them to immediately report any provocative or misleading posts to police authorities or designated helpline
